see
smile lines widening, crow’s feet growing, a few new grey hairs I’m going to leave be
lilac polish on my nails, then peach, then electric blue
the Student of Stones 1: “When you pull this card, know that your environment is conspiring to help you. Know how to draw what you need to you, as a tree draws water from the earth to create sweet fruits”
vivid dreams where I get what I wanted, where I’m not let down again
fuller days in my journal, with red ink for to-dos, blue for appointments, purple for work, and pink for friends and dates
feel
unfamiliar thighs under mine
the square, gold pendant of my necklace, its small morning glory design over a lattice pattern
river water and ocean water washing over my feet
grief in my chest like a fist squeezing tighter and tighter; then trying to breathe deeper, to lighten a little as my belly expands
hear
morning birds that I don’t know the names of outside the window I left open overnight
late evening rain drowning out the droning chorus of cicadas
my body is buzzing as I start to dance 2
smell
honeysuckle, wisteria, violet, azalea, dogwood, hyacinth, and iris
musty air in a room at a church, seated in a circle of chairs with people I see week after week
taste
the salt of tears and sweat, the subtle minerals of water from the tap, the sweetness of afternoon tea, and the sour spit pooled in a mouth later; mine, hers, hers, mine, and mine
